Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, South Africa, by Heatherwick Studio<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Thomas Heatherwick<\/a>\u2018s London-based studio is creating a museum of\u00a0contemporary African art in Cape Town, by hollowing out sections of a\u00a0historic grain silo \u2013 a structure containing 42 vertical concrete tubes.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or\u00a0Zeitz MOCAA for short, will contain no less than 80 galleries, and will form part of the\u00a0V&A Waterfront complex.<\/p>\n

Lego House, Denmark, by BIG<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

BIG<\/a>\u2018s new visitor centre for\u00a0Lego<\/a>, located in the\u00a0company\u2019s home town of Billund, is designed to look like a stack of the famous plastic bricks.<\/p>\n

Studio founder\u00a0Bjarke Ingels said he used the\u00a0basic two-by-four Lego brick as a design tool<\/a>. The completed building will contain exhibition spaces, a cafe and a shop, plus\u00a0a series of public roof gardens.<\/p>\n

King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Saudi Arabia, by\u00a0Sn\u00f8hetta<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

One of\u00a0Sn\u00f8hetta<\/a>\u2018s biggest projects so far, the\u00a0King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture will\u00a0contain 100,000 square metres of cultural facilities, including an auditorium, cinema, library, exhibition hall, museum and archive.<\/p>\n

Photos of the nearly complete structure have already emerged, revealing the bulbous, metal-pipe clad forms of its exterior.\u00a0But the building won\u2019t be open for visitors until the second half of 2017.<\/p>\n

Over six years after\u00a0Norman Foster\u2019s firm<\/a>\u00a0first unveiled its design for a new Cupertino campus for\u00a0Apple<\/a>, the huge\u00a0hoop-shaped complex is preparing to open its doors for the first time.<\/p>\n

The Apple Campus 2\u00a0will contain\u00a0research and development facilities and offices, a company fitness centre, a cafe and a 1,000-seat auditorium, all expected to promote creativity and collaboration among\u00a0staff.<\/p>\n

\"Alserkal<\/a><\/figure>\n

Concrete at Alserkal Avenue, UAE, by OMA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Rem Koolhaas<\/a>\u2018 firm will unveil\u00a0its first project in Dubai this year \u2013 a cultural centre that will\u00a0host large-scale public events, art exhibitions, performances and conferences.<\/p>\n

The project involved\u00a0transforming a set of four warehouses, giving them a new\u00a0spray-on concrete exterior. Inside, four eight-metre-high moveable walls will rotate and slide to allow for different spatial configurations.<\/p>\n

Chaoyang Park Plaza, China, by MAD<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

For the past few years\u00a0MAD<\/a>\u00a0founder Ma Yansong has\u00a0been presenting his concept for a \u201cshan-shui city\u201d \u2013\u00a0an urban development inspired by the forms\u00a0depicted in traditional Chinese landscape\u00a0paintings. But in 2017, he will reveal the first built example in Beijing.<\/p>\n

Chaoyang Park Plaza is a complex of skyscrapers, office blocks and public spaces, all designed to resemble mountains, hills and lakes.<\/p>\n

Museum of the Human Body, France, by BIG<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

As well as the Lego House, BIG will also open a museum in\u00a0Montpellier in 2017, which will look at the human\u00a0body from an artistic, scientific and societal point of view.<\/p>\n

The 7,800-square-metre building will comprise eight curved interlocking spaces, with roofs sloping up from the ground in alternate directions. Some will be paved, while others will be covered with turf.<\/p>\n

Seoul Skygarden, South Korea, by MVRDV<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Since New York\u2019s\u00a0High Line<\/a>\u00a0elevated park first opened in 2009, it has\u00a0inspired dozens of similar proposals\u00a0all around the world \u2013 but one of the first to complete will be this one by\u00a0MVRDV<\/a>, which will transform\u00a0an elevated road in Seoul into a public park.<\/p>\n

The architects\u00a0have worked with\u00a0Dutch design studio\u00a0Studio Makkink & Bey<\/a>\u00a0and landscape designer Ben Kuipers to overhaul the 938-metre-long Seoul Station Overpass, creating a new pedestrian route\u00a0that will boast 254 species of trees, shrubs and flowers.<\/p>\n

Previously\u00a0set for completion in 2016<\/a>, this cultural complex\u00a0will now open\u00a0in 2017.\u00a0Sandwiched between Beijing\u2019s\u00a0Forbidden City and a shopping district, it\u00a0will provide a headquarters for China\u2019s oldest art auction house, plus galleries, event spaces and a 120-room hotel.<\/p>\n

Its lower levels will appear as a cluster of small blocks, matching the scale of the old hutong neighbourhoods, while a large hollow structure dubbed the \u201cfloating ring\u201d will be raised up on top.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0V&A<\/a>\u00a0also opens a second project in 2017 \u2013 a museum\u00a0in\u00a0Shenzhen, created in partnership with\u00a0developer China Merchants Group.<\/p>\n

Designed by\u00a0Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize winner\u00a0Fumihiko Maki<\/a>, Design Society is expected to become China\u2019s first major design institution, beating\u00a0the\u00a0Herzog & de Meuron-designed M+ museum<\/a>\u00a0to the title.<\/p>\n
